First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 17 times
Summary
This study tested whether doing progressive relaxation exercises after emergency general surgery can reduce pain, anxiety, and improve vital signs like heart rate and breathing. 70 adults were split into two groups: one did relaxation exercises at 6 hours, 1 day, and 2 days after surgery, while the other received standard care. The relaxation group reported less pain and anxiety and had better heart rate and oxygen levels. The study shows that these simple exercises are a safe and effective way to help recovery after emergency surgery.
