Reiki after C-Section: could touch therapy boost breastfeeding and ease pain?
NCT ID NCT07447609
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study is testing whether Reiki, a gentle energy-based therapy, can help women who had a cesarean section feel less pain, more comfort, and breastfeed with more confidence. 99 new mothers will either receive Reiki, a fake 'sham' Reiki, or standard care. The goal is to see if this simple, non-drug approach can improve the postpartum experience.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Reiki therapy
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a gentle, drug-free way to help new mothers feel more comfortable and confident with breastfeeding after a cesarean.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study with no blinding, and Reiki's effects are hard to measure. The sham Reiki group may also show benefits, making it unclear if real Reiki is better.
