Can a smartphone app guide heart patients back to strength?
NCT ID NCT05989594
First seen Aug 13, 2026 · Last updated Aug 14, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether a home-based, mobile-guided exercise program can help older adults recover physical function after undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), a procedure to replace a narrowed heart valve. Participants will be randomly assigned to either the guided exercise program or routine care, and their walking ability and physical performance will be measured over time. The goal is to see if a structured, app-supported rehabilitation plan can improve recovery and daily functioning compared to standard follow-up.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Home-based mobile guided exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this approach could offer a convenient, app-guided way to boost physical recovery and quality of life after heart valve replacement, potentially reducing hospital readmissions.
- What could go wrong
- The trial is relatively small and early, and results may not apply to all patients. Adherence to home exercise can vary, and some participants may not improve as hoped.
