Simple lab report change cuts unneeded antibiotics for ventilated patients

NCT ID NCT05989269

Summary

This study tested whether changing how lab results are reported to doctors could reduce unnecessary antibiotic prescriptions for patients on ventilators in the ICU. It involved 161 adult patients across 6 intensive care units. Researchers compared periods where labs used a modified reporting method against periods with standard reporting to see if it safely led to fewer antibiotics being prescribed when not truly needed for pneumonia.
