First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study tested whether giving a heart medication (amiodarone) before surgery plus a small surgical cut in the heart lining can prevent a common irregular heartbeat after heart surgery. About 242 adults having bypass surgery took part. The goal was to see if this combo reduces the chance of new atrial fibrillation, which can lead to stroke or other serious problems.
