New program helps kids get off unnecessary meds safely
NCT ID NCT07392489
Summary
This study tested a program called AWARE to help families and doctors review psychiatric medications that children are taking, especially those prescribed 'off-label' or in combinations of three or more drugs. The goal was to see if a shared decision-making process, using a simple handout and a safe step-by-step guide for reducing doses, could help lower medication use and side effects without harming the child's well-being. Researchers worked with 31 children and their caregivers to see if this approach was practical and effective.
