Summary

This study tested a combination program for 160 HIV-positive fisherfolk in Uganda who were heavy drinkers and struggling to stick with their HIV medication. The program offered individual and group counseling, plus help opening savings accounts and building social support. The goal was to reduce heavy drinking and improve HIV care engagement, which could lower death rates and reduce HIV transmission.
