Bladder wash with blood thinner may cut repeat UTIs

NCT ID NCT02246270

First seen Apr 08, 2026 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This early-phase study tested whether rinsing the bladder with heparin, a blood thinner, could lower the number of urinary tract infections (UTIs) in women who get them often. 34 women with a history of repeat UTIs took part. The goal was to see if heparin could help prevent bacteria from sticking to the bladder wall and reduce infection rates.
