Abdominal muscle surgery aims to restore bladder function

NCT ID NCT07379814

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This trial tests a surgery that uses a piece of the patient's own abdominal muscle to wrap around the bladder, helping it squeeze and empty. The study will include 50 people with long-term urinary retention who have not gotten better with other treatments. Researchers will measure changes in bladder pressure, flow rate, and quality of life.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

rectus abdominis flap detrusor myoplasty (surgical procedure)

What this could lead to

If successful, this surgery could offer a new option for people with urinary retention who have not improved with other treatments, potentially reducing the need for catheters.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 50 participants. Surgery carries risks like infection or bleeding, and the procedure may not improve bladder function for everyone.
