Blood test could help some rectal cancer patients safely avoid surgery
NCT ID NCT07292285
Summary
This study aims to see if a special blood test (ctDNA) can help doctors better choose which patients with stage 2 or 3 rectal cancer can safely enter a 'watch and wait' program after initial treatment, instead of having immediate surgery. It will also see if the blood test helps detect if the cancer starts to grow back during monitoring. The study will follow 200 patients for two years to see how the test results affect decisions made by doctors and patients together.
