New combo therapy aims to wipe out aggressive rectal cancer before surgery

Summary

This study tests a combination of chemotherapy, radiation, and immunotherapy (PD-1 therapy) given before surgery for people with locally advanced rectal cancer that has a high chance of coming back. The goal is to see if this approach can completely eliminate the tumor before surgery. About 30 adults with specific high-risk features on MRI will take part.
