New surgery trial aims to spare rectal cancer patients from permanent stoma bags

NCT ID NCT07369531

Summary

This study is comparing two different surgical techniques for patients with low rectal cancer. The main goal is to see if a newer, two-stage surgery (TCA) results in more patients living for 3 years without needing a permanent stoma (ostomy bag) compared to the standard surgery (LAR). Researchers will also measure bowel control, quality of life, and cancer outcomes in 520 patients to determine which approach is better.
