New surgical timing could slash leak risk in rectal cancer patients

NCT ID NCT01876901

Summary

This study tested whether waiting to reconnect the bowel after rectal cancer surgery is safer than doing it immediately. It involved 124 patients with medium or lower rectal cancer. The goal was to see if the delayed method reduces serious leaks, cuts down on the need for temporary external bags (stomas), and improves patients' quality of life.
