Muscle vs. mesh: the battle to heal after aggressive rectal cancer surgery
NCT ID NCT01347697
Summary
This study compared two surgical techniques for repairing the pelvic floor after a major operation to remove advanced rectal cancer. It tested whether using a biological mesh implant led to better physical recovery six months after surgery than using a muscle flap taken from the patient's buttock. The goal was to find the best method to help patients heal, avoid complications like hernias, and improve their quality of life.
