New trial flips the script: chemo before surgery for rectal cancer
NCT ID NCT04495088
Summary
This study is comparing two treatment strategies for people with a specific type of rectal cancer that has a low risk of returning in the pelvis. The goal is to see if giving a 3-month course of chemotherapy before surgery is better than having surgery first followed by chemotherapy based on the final pathology report. Researchers want to find out which approach better prevents the cancer from coming back elsewhere in the body and improves survival, while also aiming to reduce side effects and improve quality of life.
