Stopping hemangioma drug abruptly may be as safe as tapering

NCT ID NCT07665177

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether stopping propranolol suddenly or slowly is better for preventing hemangioma regrowth in infants. About 110 children who have taken propranolol for at least 6 months will be randomly assigned to either stop immediately or taper over 4 weeks. The goal is to see which approach leads to fewer cases of rebound growth.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
propranolol
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could show that abruptly stopping propranolol is as safe as tapering, simplifying treatment for infantile hemangioma.
What could go wrong
This is a phase 4 trial with only 110 participants, so results may not apply to all cases. Rebound growth is still possible with either method.
