Stem cell infusion could be lifeline for ICU patients with lung failure
NCT ID NCT03042143
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 05, 2026 · Updated 28 times
Summary
This study tests whether a single infusion of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) can help treat acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), a severe lung condition common in ICU patients, including those with COVID-19. About 129 adults on ventilators will first receive different doses to find a safe amount, then be randomly assigned to get MSCs or a placebo. The goal is to see if MSCs improve lung function and reduce complications.
