Summary
This study is checking if the heart benefits seen for the diabetes drug empagliflozin in controlled trials also happen for regular patients in real-world doctor's offices and hospitals. It will follow about 230,000 adults with type 2 diabetes who are starting this drug or a similar one. The main goal is to see if the drug helps prevent heart attacks, strokes, heart failure, and death in everyday use, and to monitor for other safety issues.
