Step counts predict hospital stays: new study tests pedometer alerts

NCT ID NCT03102229

First seen Apr 18, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested whether tracking daily steps with a simple pedometer could help doctors spot cancer patients who are at risk of being hospitalized during chemoradiotherapy. 40 adults with head and neck, lung, esophagus, or stomach cancer wore a step counter. If their step count dropped, a rapid care team stepped in to provide extra support. The goal was to reduce hospital admissions during or shortly after treatment.
