Light-Chase test could predict falls in seniors
NCT ID NCT07375888
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested a new reactive agility system in 104 older adults with dynapenia (age-related muscle weakness). Participants stood in a marked area and ran to touch a randomly lit sensor placed 3 meters away. The system measured decision and movement times. Researchers also assessed handgrip strength, sit-to-stand ability, and fall risk awareness. The goal was to see if this simple test could help identify those at higher risk of falling.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this testing system could provide a simple, objective way to identify older adults at risk of falls due to dynapenia.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed diagnostic study. The test's real-world accuracy and usefulness for preventing falls still need to be confirmed in larger, more diverse groups.
