Quick virus test could slash unnecessary antibiotic use
NCT ID NCT07243249
First seen Nov 21, 2025 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 30 times
Summary
This study looks at whether a rapid test for COVID-19, flu, and RSV can help doctors prescribe fewer antibiotics for respiratory infections. Many respiratory infections are caused by viruses, not bacteria, but antibiotics are often given just in case. The test uses a nose swab to quickly identify the virus, so doctors can avoid antibiotics when they won't help. About 2,000 people aged 1 and older with symptoms like fever and cough will take part.
