Simple breathing test may predict tube removal success in ICU patients
NCT ID NCT07467265
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether a quick breathing measurement, called the Rapid Shallow Breathing Index, can help doctors decide when it's safe to remove a breathing tube from patients in the intensive care unit. About 70 adults on ventilators will be monitored after tube removal to see if the test predicts who can breathe on their own without needing the tube back. The goal is to reduce complications from being on a ventilator too long.
