Scientists probe genetic link to devastating brain swelling in kids
NCT ID NCT06731790
Summary
This study aimed to understand why people with a specific gene mutation (RANBP2) develop a severe, often fatal brain swelling called Acute Necrotizing Encephalopathy (ANE1) after common infections like the flu. Researchers compared blood samples from 35 people with the mutation to samples from healthy people to see if their immune cells react more strongly to infection triggers. The goal was to learn how the mutation causes the disease, which could help guide future treatments.
