Can a few heavy squats keep fasting fighters explosive?
NCT ID NCT07812441
First seen Sep 10, 2026 · Last updated Sep 11, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
Researchers compare two warm-up routines to see how they affect jumping power in male Muay Thai athletes. Each athlete performs half-squats at either 60% or 80% of their one-repetition maximum, then rests five minutes before jumping on a force platform. The study repeats the tests during Ramadan fasting and again afterward to check whether fasting changes the results. Fourteen athletes completed all sessions.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- half-squat conditioning exercises at 60% or 80% of one-repetition maximum
- What this could lead to
- If the study finds a pattern, it could help athletes and coaches choose warm-up loads that protect explosive power during Ramadan fasting.
- What could go wrong
- The study is small, with 14 athletes completing all sessions, and it measures only short-term jump performance. Results may not apply to other sports, women, or non-fasting periods.
