Balloon vs. knife: new hope for esophagus patients

NCT ID NCT02558504

Summary

This study compared two ways to treat high-grade dysplasia, a serious precancerous condition, in patients with Barrett's esophagus. It tested a less invasive balloon procedure that uses radiofrequency energy to destroy abnormal cells against the standard major surgery (esophagectomy). The goal was to see if the balloon method could effectively remove the abnormal tissue while being safer and easier on patients than surgery.
