Summary

This phase 2 trial tests whether adding image-guided radioactive seed implants to standard cancer therapy can slow disease progression in patients with oligoprogressive metastatic lung or colorectal cancer. About 90 adults whose cancer has started to progress in a few spots while on therapy will be randomly assigned to receive either standard therapy alone or standard therapy plus the seed implants. The goal is to see if the combination improves progression-free survival.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

iodine-125 radioactive seeds

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a way to control cancer that is starting to resist standard therapy, potentially delaying the need for stronger treatments.

What could go wrong

This is an early phase 2 trial with only 90 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The procedure involves radiation, which carries risks like damage to nearby tissues.
