New radiation tech aims to save saliva glands, fight dry mouth in cancer patients

NCT ID NCT07348887

Summary

This study is testing whether a more precise, daily-adjusted radiation therapy can better protect the saliva glands during head and neck cancer treatment. It aims to reduce the severe dry mouth that is a common and debilitating side effect. About 50 patients will be randomly assigned to receive either this new adaptive technique or the current standard radiation, and their saliva production and quality of life will be compared for two years.
