Can a radiation boost stop breast cancer from coming back?
NCT ID NCT00907868
Summary
This large study is testing whether adding an extra, focused dose of radiation to the tumor site helps prevent cancer from returning in women with a very early form of breast cancer called DCIS. All participants had surgery to remove the cancer followed by standard whole-breast radiation. Researchers are comparing the standard treatment to the standard treatment plus the extra 'boost' to see which is better at keeping the cancer from coming back over many years.
