Bet on yourself: new game pays smokers to quit
NCT ID NCT05075213
Summary
This study tested QuitBet, a smartphone game designed to help people quit smoking using money as motivation. Participants who smoked at least 5 cigarettes a day bet $30 of their own money. Those who successfully quit smoking for the game period got their money back and split the money forfeited by players who didn't quit. Researchers compared this social game version to a simpler version without social features to see which was more effective at helping people stay smoke-free for 6 months.
