Could your Baby's skin tone affect a vital Monitor's reading?

NCT ID NCT06063148

Summary

This study aims to find out if common fingertip oxygen monitors (pulse oximeters) are less accurate for newborns with darker skin, potentially overestimating their oxygen levels. Researchers are observing 163 newborns in intensive care to compare the monitor readings with direct blood tests. The goal is to understand if skin color, the baby's age, or blood transfusions affect the device's accuracy to ensure all babies receive equally safe care.
