Pulsed proton beams aim to tame tough pancreatic tumors

NCT ID NCT07269626

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This phase II trial tests a new radiation technique called PULSAR, which delivers short, powerful proton beam pulses every few weeks, adapted to tumor changes. It is for people with locally advanced or limited metastatic pancreatic cancer who have already had some chemotherapy. The goal is to improve local control and survival while reducing damage to nearby organs.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Proton beam radiation delivered in personalized ultra-fractionated pulses (PULSAR)

What this could lead to

If successful, this approach could improve local tumor control and survival for patients with advanced pancreatic cancer while reducing side effects from radiation.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase (phase II) trial with only 47 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The combination therapy may still cause toxicity or fail to improve outcomes.
