New study could change how dentists treat painful tooth infections

NCT ID NCT04922229

First seen Feb 19, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study compares two treatments for a painful tooth condition called irreversible pulpitis: a pulpotomy (removing only the infected part of the nerve) versus a root canal (removing the entire nerve). Researchers will track which treatment works better and look for signs that predict success. The study involves 138 adults and teens with severe, lasting tooth pain.
