New study could change how dentists treat severe tooth pain
NCT ID NCT04922229
First seen Feb 19, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 11 times
Summary
This study compares two treatments for a severely painful tooth condition called irreversible pulpitis: a pulpotomy (removing only the top part of the nerve) versus a standard root canal. Researchers will track which treatment works better and look for clues in the patient's pain and mouth fluids to predict success. About 138 adults and teens with a painful back molar will take part.
