Breakthrough pill aims to stop PTSD before it starts
NCT ID NCT04924166
Summary
This study tested if a single dose of a stress hormone pill (hydrocortisone), taken within 6 hours of a traumatic event, could prevent post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Researchers recruited 201 adults who came to an emergency room after a trauma and were showing high distress. Participants received either the real pill or a placebo, and their mental health was tracked for 28 weeks to see if the treatment reduced PTSD risk.
