Could HIV drugs clear psoriasis? small study explores new approach

NCT ID NCT04274595

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study tested whether drugs that block reverse transcriptase (normally used for HIV) could help treat psoriasis. The idea was that these drugs might reduce inflammation by targeting DNA loops in skin cells. Eight adults with plaque psoriasis took part, and researchers checked skin biopsies for changes. The study was small and completed, but results are not yet widely reported.
