Magic mushroom therapy trial aims to curb severe alcoholism

Summary
This study is testing whether therapy combined with the psychedelic compound psilocybin can help people with severe alcohol use disorder reduce their heavy drinking. Thirty-six adults who recently completed detox will receive therapy and be randomly assigned to get either a higher or lower dose of psilocybin during two sessions. Researchers will track drinking habits, cravings, and brain activity for nearly a year to see if the treatment is safe and effective.
