Magic mushrooms target addiction brain circuits in new trial

NCT ID NCT06810310

Summary

This study is testing whether psilocybin, the active compound in 'magic mushrooms,' can change brain activity related to drug cravings and self-control in people with opioid addiction. Researchers will give 24 participants either a low or high dose and use brain scans to see how it affects circuits linked to motivation and relapse. The goal is to understand if psilocybin could be a future tool to help control addiction.
