Magic mushroom therapy for depression? UCLA trial tests psilocybin + CBT

Summary

This study tests whether combining psilocybin (the active ingredient in magic mushrooms) with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a safe and helpful treatment for depression. Fifty adults with major depression will receive two doses of psilocybin and either 12 sessions of CBT or 6 sessions of standard support. Researchers will measure how acceptable and effective the treatment is.
