Blood test may spare some stroke patients unnecessary brain scans
NCT ID NCT05002400
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether a blood test measuring PS100B levels could help rule out stroke in patients with symptoms lasting more than 24 hours but less than 4 days. Researchers enrolled 179 patients at a French hospital. If the test proves accurate, it might reduce the need for emergency brain imaging in some cases.

Active substance
PS100B blood test
What this could lead to
If successful, this blood test could help doctors quickly rule out stroke in some patients, reducing the need for emergency brain scans.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early study (179 patients) looking at a biomarker that takes hours to rise, so it may not be reliable enough for routine use. The test is not yet proven to replace standard imaging.
