Blood plasma injections studied for eye stroke recovery
NCT ID NCT07330713
Summary
This study tested whether injections of a patient's own concentrated blood platelets (platelet-rich plasma or PRP) could help improve vision after sudden vision loss from a condition called NAION, which is like a 'stroke' of the optic nerve. 31 patients who had vision loss within the last two weeks were randomly assigned to receive PRP injections behind the eye or to be observed without treatment. The goal was to see if the PRP injections could help control the damage and improve vision or visual field over 16 weeks.
