First seen Jan 21, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study tests whether a newer type of radiation called proton therapy is safer and just as effective as standard X-ray radiation for children aged 6 to 16 with low-grade brain tumors. About 94 children will be randomly assigned to receive either proton or X-ray radiation. Researchers will track their thinking skills, hormone health, hearing, and overall survival over five years to see if proton therapy causes fewer long-term side effects.
