Can a special protein shake fight muscle wasting in lung disease?

NCT ID NCT01734473

Summary

This study aimed to understand how different protein drink formulas affect muscle building in older adults with COPD and healthy seniors. Researchers tested drinks with casein protein, sometimes adding the amino acid leucine or carbohydrates, to see which combination best promoted muscle growth. The goal was to gather knowledge to help address the severe muscle loss common in COPD, which worsens quality of life and survival.
