New shield catches dangerous clots during leg vein procedures

Summary
This study tested a special sheath (Protrieve) designed to catch blood clots that might break loose during a procedure to treat deep vein thrombosis (DVT). The goal was to prevent those clots from traveling to the lungs and causing a pulmonary embolism (PE). The study involved 66 people at high risk for this complication. Researchers measured how well the device captured clot material and whether it caused any serious side effects.
