Precision radiation for prostate cancer shows promise in early trial
NCT ID NCT02470897
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tested a new way to deliver radiation for prostate cancer. The goal was to give a higher dose to the tumor while protecting the urethra and other healthy tissue. 115 men with early-stage prostate cancer took part. The researchers looked at side effects and how well the treatment worked over time.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
radiation therapy (SBRT with IMRT planning)
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could offer a shorter, more precise radiation treatment for prostate cancer with fewer side effects.
What could go wrong
This is an early-phase study focused on safety and dosing, so it's not yet proven to be better than standard radiation. There is still a risk of urinary or rectal side effects.
