Shorter radiation course tested to fight prostate cancer with fewer side effects

NCT ID NCT02470897

Summary

This study tested a shorter, more targeted form of radiation therapy for men with early-stage prostate cancer. The goal was to see if delivering higher doses of radiation directly to the tumor over just 5 sessions could effectively control the cancer while causing fewer side effects to nearby healthy tissues, like the bladder and rectum. Researchers compared two slightly different radiation techniques to measure side effects and quality of life for up to three years after treatment.
