Scientists aim to restore sense of hand position in amputees with tiny electric pulses

NCT ID NCT04947462

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated Jun 10, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study tests whether small electric currents applied to nerves in the arm can give people with upper-limb amputations a sense of where their missing hand is and how it moves. Researchers will try different stimulation placements to see which works best. The goal is to use these sensations to create more natural control for prosthetic hands. Eight participants who have lost a hand or arm will take part.
