Bee glue to the rescue? propolis ointment tested for dry skin
NCT ID NCT07618234
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether ointments made from propolis, a natural substance from honeybees, can improve dry, itchy skin in adults with atopic tendencies. Thirty participants will apply either a propolis ointment or a plain base ointment twice daily for four weeks. Researchers will measure changes in skin dryness, scaling, and itching to see if propolis offers any benefit over the base ointment alone.

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- propolis ointment (3% ethanolic extract or 5% crude propolis)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a natural, over-the-counter option for managing dry, itchy skin in people with atopic tendencies.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small, early exploratory study with only 30 participants. The results may not apply to everyone, and propolis can cause allergic reactions in some people.
