New hope for severe alcoholic hepatitis: extended treatment may save lives

Summary

This study tests whether giving a longer course of steroids or adding N-acetylcysteine can improve survival and liver health in people with severe alcoholic hepatitis. About 477 adults with severe liver inflammation from heavy drinking will be enrolled. The goal is to see if these strategies help more patients be alive with better liver function after 90 days.
