Gut bugs vs. ICU bugs: probiotic trial aims to stop ventilator pneumonia

Summary
This study tests whether giving probiotics (good bacteria) to intensive care patients on breathing machines can prevent a serious lung infection called ventilator-associated pneumonia. The trial will enroll 186 adults with head injuries, strokes, or brain bleeds who are on ventilators. Half will receive probiotics and half a placebo, and researchers will compare how many develop pneumonia.
