Gut health hope: probiotics may slow kidney disease complication

NCT ID NCT07260682

First seen Dec 04, 2025 · Last updated Jun 18, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This study tested whether a daily probiotic drink could slow the buildup of calcium in blood vessels (vascular calcification) in 84 adults with advanced chronic kidney disease. Participants took either the probiotic or a placebo for 6 months, and researchers tracked changes in kidney function, inflammation, and bone mineral levels. The goal was to see if a simple, non-drug supplement could help manage a common complication of kidney disease.
